Whats this?Another post?So soon? You might even mistake me for a reliable blogger. One of my problems with fashion blogging is that I don't always look fashionable so I don't always have something to blog about, but I do always eat so I have a HELL OF A LOT to blog about.
I am not trying to be vegan all the time , i'm eating vegan 4-5 times a week. In the interim on my meat and cheese eating days I am still trying to make as many vegan choices as possible. The first of which being switching from dairy milk to non dairy milk.I don't drink a lot of milk so this hasn't been too big a challenge for me. But knowing myself as a person and knowing if I just jump into this I won't stick to this so it's important to me that I take baby steps and not just jump in and fail.
Soya milk is reasonably cheap so I have been buying that but on a recent shopping trip I spotted almond milk and decided to try it because why not? Its good to try new things.Especially CHOCOLATE FLAVOURED new things. Here is my critique of the two. I know its not a fair fight because the almond milk is chocolate flavoured but i'm excited about trying something new and I wanted to blog about it.
In terms of taste the Soya milk I have currently is unsweetened and I prefer sweetened. Its drinkable but I don't think I could drink a lot of it in one sitting. I do however, enjoy it with porridge far more than I think I would if I were to use dairy milk. The Almond milk is the tastiest thing ever. Its a lot sweeter than the Soya milk, I know its chocolate which will make it sweet but I still think it tastes nicer and would still taste nicer if it weren't chocolate flavoured. The Almond milks texture is more similar to dairy milk for me than the Soya milk, for me Soya milk has an earthier taste than almond milk.
In terms of calories the Soya milk has far fewer with 56 calories per 100g (or equal volume measurement) to Almond milks 576, so quite a lot less. I don't like to count calories because it would drive me mad but I feel this information is important to review. The Almond milk does however stand up against the Soya milk on a number of other health measures, it has more calcium, more protein, more carbohydrates. Basically Almond milk has more everything including fat. So its healthier but also unhealthier because of the fat.
In terms of price, the Soya milk was 59 pence a litre (hello I'm English) and the Almond milk was £1 down from £1.39 so the Almond milk is not something I am going to be able to have all the time.
In terms of health both milks have their benefits and its hard to say which is better. In terms of preference I prefer the taste of the Almond milk but would choose Soya over Almond a s regular choice.

What am I doing?
I kind of dove into this blog without really outlining my reasons for starting it. This blog is going to be about my attempts to be healthy, my reasons why i'm trying to be healthy and my attempts to get as cruelty free a diet as I personally can manage.
Over the years I have struggled with my weight and energy levels and digestion. Though I have never been overweight I have always disliked my body. Maybe this blog should be about what's wrong with the mainstream media and its view on the perfect body and how I should love my body. It would be great if I could think like that, i'd love to be able to love my body the way it is. But I don't feel good about myself in the way I look, I don't have any energy and the things I eat if I don't choose well cause me pain. I'm not an overly unhealthy person but I know I could do better. I'm quite a proactive person so I want to actually make a change to my life.
I have also been learning about where our food comes from. I've been watching a lot of the documentaries on Netflix (not sure how great a source of information they are). I've learnt about the meat, dairy and egg industries and how barbaric they are in their treatment of animals. I've seen the footage of chicks being thrown into blenders and cows being hit on the head for no reason and pigs being castrated by hand. Its truly gruesome. I would love to be able to connect that to my food but I have always been a biog meat eater and it's hard to break that. I'm going to try but i'm not sure i'll ever be able to cut meat completely from my diet. I am trying to have only 2 meat days a week and I know it'll take me a while to get to sticking to that but I have high hopes because I don't want to feel like rubbish inside.

Which is why I started this blog. I want to learn about how to be healthy and maybe lose a bit of weight. I want to feel comfortable in my own skin and be able to jump around and be the person that inside I know I am. I know I can't look perfect because that's not real and the efforts that many in the fashion go to in order to look perfect are the opposite of health. I just want a body and life I can be happy with and be proud of because who wouldn't?
