Whats this?Another post?So soon? You might even mistake me for a reliable blogger. One of my problems with fashion blogging is that I don't always look fashionable so I don't always have something to blog about, but I do always eat so I have a HELL OF A LOT to blog about.
I am not trying to be vegan all the time , i'm eating vegan 4-5 times a week. In the interim on my meat and cheese eating days I am still trying to make as many vegan choices as possible. The first of which being switching from dairy milk to non dairy milk.I don't drink a lot of milk so this hasn't been too big a challenge for me. But knowing myself as a person and knowing if I just jump into this I won't stick to this so it's important to me that I take baby steps and not just jump in and fail.
Soya milk is reasonably cheap so I have been buying that but on a recent shopping trip I spotted almond milk and decided to try it because why not? Its good to try new things.Especially CHOCOLATE FLAVOURED new things. Here is my critique of the two. I know its not a fair fight because the almond milk is chocolate flavoured but i'm excited about trying something new and I wanted to blog about it.
In terms of taste the Soya milk I have currently is unsweetened and I prefer sweetened. Its drinkable but I don't think I could drink a lot of it in one sitting. I do however, enjoy it with porridge far more than I think I would if I were to use dairy milk. The Almond milk is the tastiest thing ever. Its a lot sweeter than the Soya milk, I know its chocolate which will make it sweet but I still think it tastes nicer and would still taste nicer if it weren't chocolate flavoured. The Almond milks texture is more similar to dairy milk for me than the Soya milk, for me Soya milk has an earthier taste than almond milk.
In terms of calories the Soya milk has far fewer with 56 calories per 100g (or equal volume measurement) to Almond milks 576, so quite a lot less. I don't like to count calories because it would drive me mad but I feel this information is important to review. The Almond milk does however stand up against the Soya milk on a number of other health measures, it has more calcium, more protein, more carbohydrates. Basically Almond milk has more everything including fat. So its healthier but also unhealthier because of the fat.
In terms of price, the Soya milk was 59 pence a litre (hello I'm English) and the Almond milk was £1 down from £1.39 so the Almond milk is not something I am going to be able to have all the time.
In terms of health both milks have their benefits and its hard to say which is better. In terms of preference I prefer the taste of the Almond milk but would choose Soya over Almond a s regular choice.
